Acajutla Mexican Restaurant
our comments
Despite its pleasant service and family-style ambience, this Mexican-Salvadoran restaurant holds no real allure, although the kitchen has come up with an ambitious menu and some fairly tasty refried beans. As expected when restaurants blend these two cuisines, you’ll find such standards as the Salvadoran pupusa and the mariscada (seafood soup with shrimp, clams and crabs) that here is an anemic version of others around town. On the other hand, the taquitos and minichimi appetizers, plus assorted other Mexican dishes (the cheddar cheese enchiladas were particularly good), are fine but not arresting. For dessert, the Salvadoran flan or Mexican apple chimichanga are your best bets, but forget the fried ice cream. Kids have their own menu.- April 2005
