Alero Restaurant
our comments
Years ago, Alero produced terrific tacos and attracted a cross-section of Washingtonians. Today the kitchen turns out only moderately good fare, but it still has the attractive al fresco deck overlooking Connecticut Avenue. Crowds are smaller, burritos are only so-so, but in warm weather you can claim your hour in the sun, sifting through the menu’s mix of Tex-Mex and Salvadoran dishes. Get off to a good start with the taquitos Veracruz. By meal’s end, though, you’ll probably have decided that the best item on the menu was the refried beans. Also located at 1724 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 202-234-8100.- April 2005
